Greetings, Gardeners!

I hope you are all enjoying the holiday weekend! We did not schedule a Project Day today, and gave our interns (and ourselves!) the day off.

Here are a few thoughts about the garden for this long holiday weekend.

Those of you who have lettuce, spinach, broccoli, radishes, green onions, peas and other early crops are in for a delicious treat! Be sure to get over to the garden and harvest for a fresh salad to go with the grilling. And while you’re there, you can throw in some more seed for another crop. Reseed lettuce and spinach and other greens for a crop later this summer.

Last week we successfully diverted a minor disaster. There was a big leak in the hose, and several of you emailed me (thank you!) and I was able to get out there quickly and mend it. Please send an email as soon as possible if there is a leak – we have discovered the wonders of the very inexpensive hose-mending kits available from Blifferts and from Crown Hardware, and we can mend those hoses in about five minutes! So let us know if there’s a problem.

Bed Reassignments
We have just finished reassigning beds that some have not been able to plant this year. They should be filling up in the next week or so.

There MIGHT be a couple more beds opening up, so if you know someone who would like to do some late season planting, PLEASE have them send in an application.

Also, of you have applied for a bed and haven’t heard from us, PLEASE email us right away and let us know you slipped through the cracks.

Saturday, July 9
We will NOT be in the garden on Saturday, July 9. We will be meeting there at 9AM with our interns, but then we plan to go on a field trip to a Farmers Market. But we will be back in the garden the following Saturday.

See you in the garden!
